On June 6, 2013, Tropical Storm Andrea made landfall in Florida. It was our third day at Disney World. Fortunately, we had scheduled our first Character Breakfast at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort that morning, which is a dry indoor activity. During our week at Disney, we saw rain every day, and amazingly the inside of our tent stayed basically dry. But, it was definitely great to head out of the campground on June 6. We had heard that the Tropical Storm was strong and could possibly be upgraded to a hurricane. We woke up and headed straight to the Contemporary Resort. Chef Mickey's was wonderful. The food was yummy, and the kids loved being able to meet so many characters.
While the warm food, dry surroundings and magical characters were expected highlights, the kids enjoyed two unexpected highlights -- the napkin and the receipt. Keira loved the portion of the meal where all the characters sang together and encouraged the patrons to swing their napkins around.
While Elijah (our numbers boy) loved analyzing the receipt. He was amazed by how much our character meal cost and then he loved adding the numbers up himself. In fact, it kicked off a subsequent interest in receipts, adding up totals and calculating tax.
Before we left the Contemporary Resort, we decided to take some pictures in front of the Chef Mickey sign and enjoy a few rides on escalators. Both kids are obsessed with escalators. In fact, when we talk to them about Ikea in Atlanta, they call it "the place with all the escalators and elevators." They'd like nothing better than to spend a day riding up and down elevators and escalators.
When we'd had our fill with the escalators and elevators, we decided to wait out the storm, and stay dry by riding around on the Monorail.
Finally, once the storm broke, we decided to spend the rest of our day at Downtown Disney. Keira spent most of her time posing with the various statues around the Lego store and stuffed animals at another store, while Elijah created and raced his Lego car.
Amazingly, when we got back to out tent, it hadn't blown away, and everything was relatively dry! Wow!
