Camping with the Cub Scouts

The Tae Kwon Do Graduation gave us a mere glimpse of what we marveled at the entire rest of the weekend, camping with the Cub Scouts.  As was the case during the Tae Kwon Do Graduation, while camping with the Cub Scouts Elijah was by far the youngest scout in attendance -- he was the only first or second grader who camped. And, as he did during the graduation, he seemed to shine around all the older boys.  He was nearly unrecognizable as he set off with one of the third graders on a Scavenger Hunt and later when he presented their findings to the group.

Even more amazing, Elijah spent the remainder of the weekend happily gallivanting with the boys -- scaling logs, playing games and generally running around the forest like a mad man.  When we got him home, and finally got him in the bath, he was amazed by all the bruises and cuts all over his legs.  He was having so much fun, he hadn't even noticed that he'd hurt himself.  It was wonderful to see him so happy and carefree.

Elijah wasn't the only one having fun that weekend, Keira thrived in the outdoor kid-friendly atmosphere, as well.  She spent some time hanging out on Daddy's shoulders.  But, most of the weekend she spent happily digging and playing in the sandy bases of empty tent sites.  All the kids spent some time digging roads and making mountains, but Keira and her new friend Joshua spent the bulk of the weekend playing in their little sandy heaven.

All in all, I think our first family attempt at camping with the Cub Scouts was a resounding success.  Here are all the Scouts, and a few siblings, too.
