At the beginning of fourth grade, Elijah thrived. He loved being able to work at his academic level, he loved relating to the older kids, and he loved all the clubs that he was now able to join. He joined the Reading Club, Chess Club and Chorus. Through Chorus, Elijah tried out for the North Pole Musical -- the Christmas Musical put on by Chorus. All the kids who wanted a specific singing or speaking part had to try out for their part. Elijah got the part of Santa, which turned out to have the most speaking parts of the show. Amazing. He was a little nervous on opening night, but I was impressed by how he generally took it all in stride, especially considering the fact that he would be preforming in front of hundreds of students and parents. I helped him get ready backstage before the show and snapped a photo of the cast.
During the show he spent most of his time sitting on his rocker, delivering his lines and making his list. The most amazing thing about his performance was that he was unflappable. Even though one of the other main characters missed her line, he compensated, didn't say his response line (that would've made no sense) and skipped on to the next section of play. I was one proud Mama. :)
After taking his bow, he posed with his biggest fans and played around a little backstage with some of the cast.
